An intuitive battery charger inspired by the PEZ sweetie dispenser does not cost the earth!
Great design always looks easy and this product is no exception. I just love the design of this solar battery charger, it demonstrates creativity and problem solving at it’s best, not that we could expect anything less from Donn Koh.
Th proportions and line of the product are delightful and when you consider the functionality this is a great piece of design. I just love that he considers the issues of what makes the user avoid battery chargers, despite their obvious environmental benefits and tackles them subtly, nuancing his design to create an object that is tactile and extremely attractive.
Reversing the PEZ sweetie dispenser the batteries are continuously charged as they drop through the charger, effectively being sorted from the least to the fullest charged without any conscious effort.
You’ll always get the fully charged one and never have to guess.
It’s got to be portable, covered in a felted material the RENEW can be propped up on a sunny surface sunshine or hung on the window; either way I am thinking that this could be the way forward for power hungry travellers.
The only drawback as I see it is that it can only charge one type of battery at a time, bit this is a small niggle for a cool bit of kit.
And just to remind those who might have forgotten this is a PEZ sweetie dispenser:
You got to love that good a design does not date, though the materials it is made of may!
